Rohrman Automotive Group Announces Student Will Receive Prize After Purdue Football Home Opener Field Goal Kick

Revised “Kicks for Cash” process established; donation to be made to Ross-Ade Brigade

LAFAYETTE, IND. – Rohrman Automotive Group has announced its intention to award Purdue University student Zach Spangler his choice of a two-year car lease or $5,000 in cash after he participated in the “Kicks for Cash” promotion during the Purdue football home opener on Saturday, August 31.

In addition to Spangler’s prize, Rohrman Automotive Group is donating $5,000 to the Ross-Ade Brigade, the student section at Purdue football home games.

“Our goal with this challenge is to have fun, and our intention with these new guidelines should ensure just that,” said Trey Rohrman, Director of Operations for Rohrman Automotive Group. “We acknowledge that the process to determine whether or not Zach qualified for the grand prize took too long and his incredible kick should be rewarded. We are committed to an improved and more transparent contest for future games, and we appreciate the public’s scrutiny of the process to help us evolve and make this challenge even better and more fun than ever before.”

Moving forward, a revised “Kicks for Cash” challenge will give one selected Purdue University student per home game the opportunity to make a total of three kicks. Rohrman and Purdue have agreed to remove the 30-second timer, focusing the promotion on the kicks instead of the clock. Each kick attempt will garner its own prize:

- First kick attempt: Positioned at the 10-yard line, this first kick attempt gives the student the opportunity to win a $100 VISA gift card. Win or lose, he or she moves on to the second kick attempt.

- Second kick attempt: Positioned at the 20-yard line, this second kick attempt gives the student the opportunity to win a $150 VISA gift card. Win or lose, he or she moves on to the third and final kick attempt.

- Third kick attempt: Positioned at the 30-yard line, this third and final kick attempt gives the student the opportunity to win a 2-year lease of a new Honda Civic from Bob Rohrman Honda in Lafayette OR $5,000 in cash.

Rohrman has reached out to Spangler to confirm the car lease or cash. Purdue University Athletics intends to join Rohrman in awarding Spangler his prize on-field during Saturday’s home football game against Notre Dame.

“We applaud the Rohrman Auto Group for honoring the spirit of the promotion and doing right by Zach,” said Ken Halpin, Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer for Purdue Athletics. “Our students, as well as the rest of our fans, are essential to the electric environment inside Ross-Ade Stadium, and we share Rohrman’s commitment to providing a fun and exciting event from start to finish. We are also committed to working alongside the Rohrman Auto Group to ensure a situation like this is not repeated in the future, and that all collaborations between our two organizations remain positive and productive moving forward.”
To further its support of the student body and Purdue Athletics, Rohrman Automotive Group’s additional $5,000 donation to the Ross-Ade Brigade will assist student fans traveling to away games to cheer on the Boilermakers.
